Based on discussions in foreign communities, andmobile version Based on the experience launched by, the impact of web page experience on rankings will not be too drastic. Report ofChromealso pointed out that currently only 39% of websites have reached the "good" level in all three indicators, so everyone still has a long way to go. But despite this, these indicators are still very representative factors for optimizing website conversion rate and user experience.

[Trivia] Sitemap can contain the URLs of other subfolders

Robots.txt can only be placed in the root directory of the website, while Sitemap can be placed in any subfolder. The general understanding is that in which subdirectory the sitemap is placed, the file can only contain URLs in that subdirectory. For example, if the sitemap is located athttps://www.example.com/folder-1/sitemap.xml, only items containing The URL of/folder-1/.

But in fact, there is an exception to the above narrative. John recently answered this question on Twitter, that is, when/folder-1/and/folder-2/When both subdirectories have been certified by the GSC of the same account, then/folder-1/can contain non- The URL of/folder-1/.

In addition, John also added that if a sitemap is placed in a subdirectory and its location is also mentioned in robots.txt, then the sitemap can contain URLs outside the subdirectory, because the point is that the person who provided the sitemap has proven his authority to control the website.

[News] CrUX starts recording new "interactive" metric (experimental)

web experiencethree major indicators, respectively quantify the "loading speed」、「Interactivity」、「stability". Interactivity is currently measured by First Input Delay, but this indicator has two fatal flaws - (1.) It only calculates the delay of the user's first interaction with the web page, and does not record subsequent interactive experiences. For example, the first interaction on many websites is to turn off cookie notifications, and the real meaningful interactions are the subsequent actions; (2.) In addition, it only records the time difference between the user's interaction and the "start of response" of the web page, and does not take the "response time" into consideration. Therefore, the web page starts running immediately after pressing the first button, but it takes 10 seconds to complete. There will still be a high FID score.

In this regard, Chrome is going to launch a new responsiveness indicator, which can already be seen in the Chrome UX Report, calledexperimental.responsivenessis still a test, so I won’t introduce it much. [Tutorial] Custom dimensions (dimension) in Data Studio

This article teaches how to further add custom dimensions to Google Analytics or Search Console data on Google Data Studio, making analysis and reporting more intuitive. The article gives many examples and usage scenarios. You will encounter a bit of programming language but it is not too difficult. It is recommended that readers who are not familiar with Data Studio or website analysis find time to practice it. This skill will be used frequently.

Two of my personal favorite apps are(1.)Classifies GSC’s search words into two dimensions: “brand words” and “non-brand words”. The usage scenario is that if you see the website’s natural traffic growing year by year, but all of it comes from brand words, it may have a low relationship with SEO effectiveness.(2.) Another method is to classify "landing page types" by URL, so that you can see the performance of different types of pages.

Custom dimensions, classify the rankings to clearly see the pages that are "already in the top three" and "on the second page, almost reaching the first page"

To add, dimensions and metrics are easily confused. Generally speaking, what cannot be quantified is called "dimension", such as the traffic comes from New York or Taipei; and what can be quantified is called "indicator", such as how much traffic, how many conversions... etc.

[Lecture] Google’s SEO novice workshop

This is an SEO speech organized by Grow with Google in early March. The speaker is Jason from Google's internal SEO team, but has no relationship with the Google Search team (John Mueller and others), so the information in the video is public information.

The content of the speech is very basic, and it is suitable for the audience who are probably ordinary small and medium-sized company owners, who are not even sure whether they should have a website and have only a rough understanding of SEO. The purpose of sharing this video is not because there is any new knowledge in it, but because it introduces the methods and angles of SEO, including the steps of explanation, practical operations, Q&A... etc., which are very suitable for reflecting on what you say when explaining SEO to outsiders.

[Case] Doordash's "near me" page strategy

DoorDash is a larger food delivery platform than Ubereats in the United States. This video from Ahrefs analyzes Doordash's SEO strategy. When searching for "restaurants near me", "coffee near me", etc. "Near Me",DoorDashcompared to The pageUberEatsaccounts for a much higher proportion on the first page. Almost all appear on the first page.

The video first talks about the performance of DoorDash and UberEats in natural search, then analyzes the user experience of the Near Me page and the possible reasons for its better SEO performance, and finally comes to some conclusions. Although it is difficult to have an absolute answer on SEO, especially the question of why A ranks higher than B, the direction they discussed is worth reference, and it is recommended to watch!

View original content on Spotify

This episode features Danielle Marshak, one of the product managers on the Google search team, mainly responsible for videos.

The core purpose of Google search is to organize information on the Internet, and video is undoubtedly an important information source medium. In the past few years, Google searches havetext understanding's technology is growing rapidly. Similarly, when Google makes more breakthroughs in non-text carrier information processing technology, it should not be too surprising that more images and videos will be seen in search results.

Danielle talked about several ways Google understands video content (inIssue 44has been covered), and also emphasized Structured data forvideo, as well as the text content on the web page where the video is located, are of great help to Google in understanding the video information, because the visual recognition technology of computers is still a long way from being mature. An example is judgmentChihuahua and Muffin(orXia Yuqiao and Song Yunhua)。

Finally, Danielle mentioned that her team now has two focuses. One is how to use "video understanding" to help users find the information they want faster, such askey moment; the other is how to better integrate videos into the search experience and determine whether the user's search terms are more suitable (or less suitable) to use videos to find answers.
