Does the presence of keywords/non-English characters in the URL affect SEO?
John Mueller was asked this question on Twitter: "Would it have a bad SEO impact if French content web pages were used as URLs in English?" Here is his answer:

The general idea of the entire discussion thread is:
- When the content is indexed, whether there are keywords in the URL has minimal impact on SEO
- Changing the URL is a site migration process for us, and it takes time to process, so don’t change it randomly if you have nothing to do.
- The presence of non-English characters in the URL does not affect googlebot. You should decide what to use for the URL from the user's perspective.
I wrote an articleHow search engines crawl websites’s article is very detailed but not short. If you don’t understand how the crawler works, you are welcome to come and fill in this aspect!
TikTok appears as a carousel on search results
Some foreign netizens noticed that the search results for some TikTok celebrities would have a carousel-like appearance similar to Twitter. The following are the results of my actual measurement. Whether it will appear in the search results for "non-brand" words in the future is worth the attention of marketers.

Several new features for Chrome
The next version of Chrome has some nice features worth paying attention to:
1. Label the web page "Fast Page"- When long-pressing a link on a mobile phone, a "fast page" label will appear to inform the user of the user experience of the website. This label is based onweb vitalscomes from historical data.
2. Pagination classification and pagination preview- Tab Grouping can separate web pages in different colors and compress or expand them; while tab preview can run out a preview of the page when the mouse points to the tab.
3. Little Dinosaur QR Code Generator- Users can convert web pages into QR Codes with Chrome dinosaur patterns. It’s so cute. Below is the QR Code for this article🙃.

[Template] Use Google Sheets to automatically record website web vitals
Amit Agarwal shared this template, which can be connected to the PageSpeed Insights API through Apps Script to make the web pageUser experience (web vitals)scores are recorded daily on Google Sheets.
The entire setup is quite simple. It takes about 15 minutes to complete the setup by following the steps in the article.

AVIF image format that saves more space than WEBP
AVIF is a new open source and free image format that can save 50% of JPEG images on average. It is considered to be more efficient than the WEBP format. Developers can choose lossy or lossless compression and can also support dynamic images.

Apple is rumored to launch its own search engine
There are recent rumors that Apple may launch a search engine. Some signs are that they have opened a lot of related job openings, updated their applebot page, and many webmasters have recently seen that applebot has become quite active in the log file...etc. It's still a rumor stage, but if true, it will be a challenge to Google's search leadership position.

Simo Ahava’s Server Side Tagging introduction video
Last issue of e-newsletterSpeaking of this major update of Google Tag Manager, Simo, the dean of GTM, held several online discussions to let everyone know more about this function, including introduction, advantages and disadvantages, implementation, and Q&A.
Simo’s explanation is wonderful. I recommend that all marketers or data analysts who rely on GTM should learn about this update.
Google Analytics has also been promoting App+Web Property recently, which is very different from the old version of GA (session-based vs event-based analytics), this articleChinese articlehas a good introduction, I suggest you take a look at it when you have time.
SEO Mythbusters: Site Migration
This episode’s myth buster discusses Site Migration and has several good points: "site moveFollow
What is the difference in Google's definition ofsite migration?", "What is the general process of Google's site migration", "Does the website need to use the URL change tool in GSC or can it be redirected directly with 301?"...etc.
I think it is quite interesting to use Martin’s dining truck/restaurant as an analogy: if the same dining cart moves from point A to point B, your evaluation of it will not change (site move); but if the restaurant changes its name, decoration and even price, you may need to visit it a few more times to decide whether it is worth recommending to friends (site migration).
Google Search Podcast EP.4 & EP.5
There are many good things in these two episodes of Search Off the Record. Some trivial topics are more interesting from the perspective of Googlers. I recommend friends who have time to listen to them.
The fourth episode includes the process of John, Gary, and Martin joining Google, how webmasters should treat comments on web pages...etc.
In the fifth episode, Martin discusses again2 Wave Indexing Metaphor, as well as honeymoon perios that are common in SEO (the traffic is very high when the webpage is released, but it will disappear after a few weeks), the origin of the sandbox, and crawl budget...etc.
Ordered for myself at the beginning of this yearOne-year SEO e-newsletter plan, now two thirds of the way has passed, 3 months to go!
