have you ever asked
"Why does an image I put on the website not show up in the image results when others search for it?", most people should not have this problem... because as long as most images have undergone appropriate image optimization (image file name, size, Alt Tag, article content... etc.), even if they are not ranked very high, they should still appear in the search results when someone searches for related keywords.
This article is about what I am doingReputation ManagementA little theory I discovered at the time is that image search is the same as general web search. Google hopes that the information it provides has real value, so for “duplicate” and “similar” content, Google will decide which one to appear in the SERP based on other factors. Duplicate content that does not appear is not ranked lower, but almost disappears.
Diversity Matters
The picture above is an article I recently read by Teacher Wu Tianyuan. If you use Exact Match to search for it, you will see a paragraph at the bottom, saying that Google has excluded other very similar (basically the same) results and only selected two for presentation.
This is the same as Host Clustering. Host Clustering means that in most cases, even if the authority of a domain is very high, Google will only select 1~3 (*.) web pages from this domain to appear on the SERP. Unless Google feels that the search string is really consistent with the website, and other pages of the website can also provide valuable information.
*. This number is not fixed. Google is always changing the algorithm, but I believe everyone can grasp this big idea:DIVERSITY, there is a video explained by Matt Cutts below, it is highly recommended to watch it! (Video time 4:47)
Picture Reputation Management Errors and Learning
The previous article mentioned that I wanted to help a CEO Big Brother bury his appearance in
An ugly photo in the CNBC report. For this reason, I must find a way to generate more photos of him. The purpose is to use these photos to occupy the top results when someone searches for Peter Merrigan, and not to let people see his freezer photos...
My initial approach was to use his other pictures, make some simple modifications (black and white, add company logo...etc.), and then put them on the profiles I created for him. Example:
 |
| Peter appears in
Original photo onBisnow |
 |
| I helped him make modifications...brightness, black and white, length and width |
I must have made 80 photos of this kind of bird. As can be imagined, the result isis useless, a black and white photo, does not appear in the image search results from beginning to end. Google can determine that the two photos are essentially "similar" photos, so according to the principle of diversity they hope to have, only one of them will appear.
In fact, these similar pictures I helped him edit have a chance to appear in the SERP of the picture. Here is another picture of Peter Merrigan that also appeared in Bisnow:
 |
| 02/10/2016 |
On 2/10, the photo of Bisnow appeared on the Image SERP. I also made several modified versions of the original picture. This time it was different from the first picture. My modified version appeared:
 |
| 03/08/2016 |
Although the modified version appears, if you look carefully you will find
The original picture ofBisnow has disappeared instead! After one plus and one minus, Google still determined that the two pictures were the same, and only presented one, but this time it was a modified version. My purpose was still not achieved.
As for why the modified version I put on contently can beat Bisnow's original version, it should be related to the general ranking factors. The ranking of Images is no different from the general web search. The more related to the keyword, the easier it is to appear at the front. (And Bisnow is not a website with high DA either XD)
Celebrity Example
The reason why Google wants Diversity is not explained in detail. If I were to look for pictures of Vince Carter today, the results on the Images SERP would be all photos of him blowing up a 7-foot-2 man in the 2000 Sydney Olympics (a classic photo). They just have different sizes, resolutions, and formats... I guess searchers will not be too satisfied.
Michael Jordan
Eason Chan
Ma Ying-jeou
(........)
I think you know what I want to say! If you want to use images (ex. infographic) to drive some traffic to your website today, you must ensure that the image (in this keyword) will not be regarded as a duplicate image by Google, otherwise only the original image may appear on the SERP.
Exception - Steve Jobs
The Image search results of Steve Jobs repeated several photos of him pinching his chin. With his reputation, I think there should be a lot of unique images, but why are there so many that should be judged as duplicate images by Google? My personal guess is because although these photos are repeated, they are all on websites with high DA, and each photo has been "cited" many times. Images Search should also have the concept of backlinks, so this may be one of the reasons.
Create unique image
Here’s the point! To what extent does the picture need to be retouched so that it will not be regarded as the same photo and never appear? The answer is simple, that is
Search by image!
(Although it is simple, I only realized this most basic concept of diversity and unique image after editing many pictures…)
similar picture
Take the above photo that was retouched in black and white as an example. As long as you search the photo with the image after retouching it, you will know whether Google has determined that it is the same photo as the color version.
If the original image appears in the matching images in the search results, it means that it has not been edited enough!
different pictures
The picture above is a mug shot of the CEO used in a lot of places. I combined it with a certain procurement project of his company to create the picture below, and then placed it in an article introducing the project.
This time I will search for pictures through pictures and see what will appear.
this result
The first result is the same picture, because I only searched now and the picture has been indexed. You can see that none of the other matching images is the CEO's headshot.
Although there are other matching landscape pictures that were used for synthesis, these pictures are not ranked on our target keywords (searching for peter merrigan will not show these pictures in the first place), so it is still feasible.
Conclusion
The above is just my personal guess. Just like many SEO concepts, there is no clear feasibility or feasibility. Although some pictures do appear in the search results using this detection method, there are more pictures that do not appear.
It is definitely not good to try to deceive Google!! What I did above… I have to explain it… It can also be said… to make the pictures and text more consistent, but those who read the previous article will know that it is definitely not like this…
I typed this article in two or three days. After thinking about it later, I actually considered deleting this article because it was really not teaching any good methods and I was not sure whether what I said was correct. More importantly, in general, you should be able to get more original pictures without having to repair them like I did, so I was a little doubtful about the purpose of this.
But I still kept it because my writing skills are really not good and it takes a lot of time to type these. It feels really painful to delete them. I hope everyone can focus on the previous concept: Search Engines like unique, fresh, value-added content that is truly helpful to searchers, rather than how to trick Google later.
